Between the Lines: Week 1 Snap Count Analysis

AFC West

Denver Broncos - Timeshare with a Fresh Face

Quarterback: Case Keenum (100%)

Running Backs: Royce Freeman (39%), Phillip Lindsay (35%), Devontae Booker (26%)

Wide Receivers: Emmanuel Sanders (86%), Demaryius Thomas (72%), Courtland Sutton (59%)

Tight Ends: Jeff Heuerman (81%), Jake Butt (49%)

Phillip Lindsay surprisingly emerged to make this backfield a three-man timeshare. Emmanuel Sanders seems to be the wide receiver to roster in Denver by a long shot.

Kansas City Chiefs - Watkins a Breakout Target?

Quarterback: Patrick Mahomes (100%)

Running Backs: Kareem Hunt (71%), Anthony Sherman (30%), Spencer Ware (16%)

Wide Receivers: Sammy Watkins (91%), Tyreek Hill (71%), Chris Conley (63%)

Tight End: Travis Kelce (100%)

A player simply doesn't see 91% of snaps in a dynamic offense and stay quiet for long. I've not been big on Sammy Watkins, but he could have some monster weeks in this offense, despite Tyreek Hill's impressive showing. Spencer Ware appears to pose no threat to Kareem Hunt's workload.

Los Angeles Chargers - Antonio Gates Eased In

Quarterback: Philip Rivers (100%)

Running Backs: Melvin Gordon (76%), Austin Ekeler (27%)

Wide Receivers: Keenan Allen (88%), Tyrell Williams (76%), Travis Benjamin (57%), Mike Williams (54%)

Tight Ends: Virgil Green (54%), Antonio Gates (40%)

As expected, it is Tyrell -- not Mike -- Williams who deserves your attention in this offense. Antonio Gates will likely see his snaps increase in future weeks, but he will not be on the field often on running downs.

Oakland Raiders - Play Monday Night
