Giving the Tampa Bay offense a run for their money in most surprising Week 1 performance was the New York Jets defense.
After finishing 2017 in the bottom-10 of the NFL in yards (352.3) and points (23.9) allowed per game, the Jets registered a league-leading 26 FanDuel points on Monday night. To put that in perspective, they scored just 71 FanDuel points in the entire 2017 season (4.4 per game). How did they shock the NFL and the Detroit Lions in Week 1? Turnovers, turnovers, and more turnovers.
The Jets picked off Matthew Stafford and Matt Cassel 5 times while allowing just 17 points -- 6 coming on a Sam Darnold interception. They returned one interception for a touchdown of their own, while their special teams found the end zone too with an Andre Roberts kick return for six.
This week they get to prove they were no fluke as they come back home as 3.0-point favorites over the Miami Dolphins. The Fins' offense was respectable in their 27-20 win over the Tennessee Titans but still showed some exploitable weaknesses. Ryan Tannehill took advantage of a short-field, throwing for 2 scores, but was also picked off twice and owns a 3.4% interception rate in his last 14 regular season games played.
With the fifth-highest projected FanDuel points for Week 2, the Jets are an excellent value at a bargain price.
