Jake Butt found himself on our list of tight end sleepers last week but came up with a dud: two catches for eight yards on three targets. So why is on this list again? The second-year tight end has perhaps the easiest matchup of Week 4 as the Denver Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs.
With All-Pro safety Eric Berry out of action, the Chiefs have struggled to reign in tight ends this year, allowing the second-most receiving yards (287). Last week, George Kittle burned them for 5 catches and 79 yards while the week before it was Jesse James and Vance McDonald teaming up for 8 catches, 161 yards, and a touchdown. The Chiefs have given up the third-most PPR points per game (12.9) to the position this year. And even if Berry returns on Monday night, the flow of the game may lead to a big game for Butt.
The game script is shaping up nicely for the tight end as the game carries the highest over/under of the week. The Chiefs are also five-point road favorites. That means the Broncos are likely to be chasing points and leaning on the passing game. Last week against the Ravens, Butt was on the field for a career-high 51.5% of offensive snaps in a similar scenario, so the opportunity should be there.
