The Green Bay Packers had a serious issue coming into their Week 5 matchup with the Detroit Lions: all of their starting wide receivers were listed on their weekly injury report. Of those three, only Davante Adams was good to go for Sunday. That's a tough spot for any team.
But fortunately for Green Bay, their fresh crop of rookie wide receivers came ready to play. Marquez Valdes-Scantling finished the game with a whopping 10 targets. And unlike teammate Randall Cobb, whose seen similar volume this year, Valdes-Scantling parlayed those targets into a great offensive performance. The fifth round pick finished Sunday as the WR9 in PPR leagues with 7 receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown.
He wasn't the only rookie that thrived in the 31-23 loss. Equanimeous St. Brown also had himself a solid game. ESB -- a player who many had considered to be among the top wideouts in this year's pre-draft process -- had an efficient debut start, turning 5 targets into 3 receptions for 89 yards. He's looking like a solid deep threat for Aaron Rodgers.
These rookies showed their stuff in this week's loss and could push for more playing time going forward. There could be a changing of the guard behind Adams in the near future.
