Week 8 was yet another solid week for our defensive streamers as all three options finished inside the top-12 of weekly scoring.
On the back of a late pick-six by Devin McCourty, the New England Patriots finished as the best fantasy defense on the week. The Kansas City Chiefs racked up five sacks and two turnovers against the Denver Broncos to finish as the eighth-best fantasy defense. And the Pittsburgh Steelers came through with the week's 11th-best score in a win over the Cleveland Browns, which ultimately led to the ousting of head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Behind the Patriots' 20-point performance in Week 8, our top streaming option of the week is now averaging 13.4 points per game. That ranks as the best per game average among all defenses this season, three points better than the top overall fantasy defenses, the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears (10.1 points per game).
Heading into Week 9, we're targeting two home favorites and a big road favorite facing a team at a crossroads.
As always, every week in this column, we search the waiver wire to identify low-owned teams set up with a great matchup. The focus is on teams owned in about 50% or fewer of Yahoo fantasy leagues. Our goal is to identify teams poised to be a top-12 scorer (start-able in standard leagues) for that given week.
Here are three defenses you can pick up off the waiver wire and play in Week 9.
