Jordan Thomas had a coming out party on Thursday Night Football in Week 8 as he caught two touchdowns versus the Miami Dolphins. Thomas racked up a career-high 4 targets and 4 catches as he played a season-high 88.5% of offensive snaps. The game marked the second straight week with over 80% snaps played as the rookie from Mississippi State made a start in place of Ryan Griffin. Even if Griffin can return this Sunday, Thomas may have done enough to take over as Deshaun Watson's favorite tight end.
Thomas was targeted a team-high three times in the red zone last week. With Will Fuller out for the season and newly acquired Demaryius Thomas still learning the playbook, expect Watson to lean on DeAndre Hopkins and Thomas in a fantasy-friendly matchup with the Denver Broncos in Week 9.
Through eight games, the Broncos' defense has been tough on passing games, sitting as the second-best pass D per our ranks. Despite that, they have struggled when it comes to tight ends. Denver has given up the sixth-most receiving yards to the position, allowing 14.7 yards per catch to tight ends. With Houston potentially poised to air it out as 2.5-point underdogs, Thomas is in a pretty nice spot.
