John Kelly is something of a one-week stash play.
His floor for value is absolutely zero, but that's okay, because a situation in which he has no value will be crystal-clear, and it will be no problem to simply leave him on your bench. His ceiling could also be excellent, and that situation, too, would be obvious.
If Todd Gurley sits, John Kelly is a terrific fantasy option. If Gurley plays, Kelly can be dropped or left on the pine.
As of Thursday, the expectation is that Gurley will play, but the team signing C.J. Anderson suggests that there could be some doubt.
We have only a two-carry NFL sample for Kelly, but it honestly doesn't matter how good he is -- being the starting running back in the league's third-highest scoring offense would be fantasy football gold, especially with LA a big favorite against the Arizona Cardinals and their bottom-10 run defense.
Like I said in the intro, with the season ending, there's no reason to hold onto someone you're not going to start this week, even if they've been in and out of your lineup all season. So Kelly is worth picking up with the hopes that Gurley sits.
The chance you play Kelly is slim, but unless you're loaded at running back, he's well worth stashing on your bench just in case. A week ago, we saw with Justin Jackson and Damien Williams just how valuable it can be to take over the backfield in a high-scoring offense.
