The quarterbacks taken at the end of the eighth round still didn't spark a run, as the ninth round passed with all of the other top passers still on the board.
However, a few of the younger players began to get picked, as Andre Williams, Kelvin Benjamin, Mike Evans and Tre Mason get their names called here in the ninth. Williams is a strange pick for JJ, who has been singing the praises of Rashad Jennings all summer, but he hadn't taken a running back since his first three picks. The position was so thin that Williams represented one of the better values.
The juxtaposition of Benjamin and Jerricho Cotchery is interesting, as the two are fighting for the same looks in the Carolina offense this season. Cotchery comes to Carolina after a very strong year as a touchdown producer for the Steelers, while Benjamin figures to be a red zone threat in his NFL career due to his ridiculous size and athleticism. Which one wins out? The answer will dictate the depth on Galin and Sean's teams.
My pick: Roy Helu, RB, Washington Redskins - The first of my picks to get audible cursing from multiple other writers in the Google Hangout we were holding during the draft, Helu is a great value as the pass-catching receiver in Washington in the new Jay Gruden offense. This pick especially ticked off JJ, who wanted to handcuff Helu to Alfred Morris.
