He's been Drew Brees's favorite target for years, but now someone bigger, younger, and more dynamic has come along, and Marques Colston has fallen a bit by the wayside. Colston ranks 82nd in our Total NEP among wide receivers thus far in 2014, and that doesn't look to change anytime soon, as the Brees-to-Jimmy Graham connection isn't slowing. Add in age, nagging foot injuries, and even another young man to soak up targets (32nd-ranked Brandin Cooks), and Colston's chances aren't looking so good, despite his history.
Minnesota has been a fairly stingy defense so far, ranking as our top team in Adjusted Defensive NEP, and new head coach Mike Zimmer is a defensive guru. Don't doubt that Zimmer watched how Cleveland shut down the New Orleans passing game last week, and I wouldn't be surprised if he uses a similar formula and plans to use his above-average secondary to shut down the New Orleans receiver corps.
