Martellus Bennett was a great play last week because starting your tight ends against the Raiders is the new starting your tight ends against the Cardinals from recent years. But this week Bennett figures to be a good play again.
The Bears go into Kansas City as 9.5-point underdogs, and as we mentioned about Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs likely using the projected lead they’ll be nursing to kill clock, the converse is true with the Bears. So they'll likely be airing it out with reckless abandon, and as Jay Cutler's favorite weapon outside of Alshon Jeffery, who will likely be making his return after a three-week hiatus due to injury, Bennett will get his looks.
The Chiefs, while a slightly below average defense, are much worse at defending the pass than the run, currently ranking as the 24th best pass defense in the league per our metrics.
With a favorable game script and a soft matchup, Bennett figures to be one of the few non-Rob Gronkowski tight ends worth paying up for this week.
