Those calling for Mark Sanchez to replace Sam Bradford as the Eagles signal caller may have finally gotten their wish.
On Sunday against the Dolphins, Bradford took a hard hit on a sack in the third quarter that knocked him out of the game with a grade II AC joint sprain to his non-throwing shoulder as well as a concussion. This has opened the door for Sanchez to start in next week's contest against Tampa Bay and their 28th-ranked passing defense.
And while Sanchez was far from spectacular in relief of Bradford -- completing 14 of 23 attempts for 156 yards and a costly interception -- if Bradford is indeed out for next week's game, a full week's worth of practice as the team's number one quarterback should help knock some of the rust off Sanchez's game.
Indeed, last season Sanchez did remarkably well as the team's starter, racking up 2,418 passing yards and 14 touchdowns in just nine games (eight starts) and was actually the 12th most efficient quarterback with at least 200 pass attempts last year, with his 0.15 Passing NEP per drop back ranking him just behind Philip Rivers (0.18), Drew Brees (0.17), Andrew Luck (0.17), and Matt Ryan (0.16).
If you're in need at the quarterback position in a very deep league, you could do worse than to take a flier on Sanchez on the chance he gets this Chip Kelly Eagles offense to soar once again.
