It's sort of painful to recommend Markus Wheaton as a waiver wire pickup because I was once heavily invested in how bad he was. But all good fantasy players must adapt to changing circumstances, and with the Steelers' pass-heavy offense feeding him no fewer than six targets in the last two weeks, it makes sense to go after him to see if the trend continues.
Wheaton found the end zone for the second straight week against the Colts, finishing Sunday Night's game with a 3-catch, 50-yard and 1-touchdown stat line. And his performance over the last two games have brought his efficiency levels up, too, as he currently sports an 0.80 Reception NEP per target this season, well above league average.
While I still wouldn't feel comfortable starting Wheaton yet, if he receives a respectable number of targets next week, he may have become an integral enough part of the league's most prolific offenses to warrant starting, particularly in deeper leagues. But if you don't get him now, someone else will. As such, get him on your roster and hope his newly expanded role is the real deal.
