The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been lacking a steady pass rush for some time now, averaging 31.8 sacks over the past five years. Last season, this average would have tied for just 24th in the NFL in team sacks.
Defensive end Robert Ayers, therefore, brings a pass rush component to this team that is desperately needed. In the past four years with the New York Giants and Denver Broncos, Ayers has racked up a career 1.13 percent sack rate. If he saw true starter snaps with the Buccaneers, he could put up 10 sacks by himself at that rate. It’s safe to say that the Buccaneers’ 27th-ranked 0.20 Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play should drastically improve in 2016.
