A highly decorated Alabama quarterback who “just knows how to win” falls through the draft: we’ve heard this story before, as A.J. McCarron suffered a similar draft day fate in 2014. He was selected on Day 3, though; Jake Coker was not.

Coker does have the requisite NFL size (6’5”, 235 pounds) and great arm strength, however, and his throwing mechanics -- if inefficient -- are sound. His deep ball works very well, and he has the ability to dial up some extra speed on zip passes when he needs it. In his final year at Alabama, Coker had a 66.9 percent Completion Rate, 5.34 Touchdown Rate, 2.04 Interception Rate, and 7.9 Yards per Attempt.

If Coker can develop himself anywhere, it will likely be with the Arizona Cardinals, where head coach Bruce Arians might see a project version of Carson Palmer's tools in his new signee. To secure a roster spot, Coker will likely only have to beat out Matt Barkley, who has shown absolutely nothing in his time in the league. Coker will settle in as a practice squad player for now, however, as Drew Stanton is a capable backup.
