We've had our share of high-scoring affairs over the first four weeks, but we could have a real doozy on our hands in Week 5, with 6 of the 12 main slate games showing at least a 49 over/under, including a whopping 57.5 for the contest between the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers. Narrowing down your favorite plays could be a daunting task this week.
We'll dig into that and more in our weekly FanDuel primer, where we give you an overview of the Sunday main slate to help you get started on your research. As always, we recommend checking out all of numberFire's premium tools at your disposal. In particular, the heat map is a great way to get a general overview of the slate's implied totals, and every team's strengths and weaknesses. You also have access to numberFire's weekly projections, which can assist you in nailing down who might be the slate's top scorers and best values.
Be sure to also pay attention to inactives prior to Sunday's games, which can often completely change the makeup of a given slate. After all, injuries can have a huge impact on playing time, where an otherwise low-priced backup can suddenly find his way into a feature role and become an excellent play.
Now, let's run through some of this week's top plays on the FanDuel main slate.
Quarterbacks
Ben Roethlisberger ($8,400 on FanDuel): We all know the drill regarding Ben Roethlisberger's stark home/road splits, and he can certainly be forgiven for failing in a home spot against the Baltimore Ravens, who rank number one against the pass according to numberFire's Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play metric. He's home again this week, but this time it's against the Falcons, numberFire's 26th-ranked pass defense, and the Steelers boast the slate's highest implied total (30.25). Toss in the aforementioned slate-high 57.5 over/under, and we have ourselves some massive shootout potential in this spot. The Steelers have the third-highest passing play percentage in the league, and Roethlisberger leads the league with 353.5 passing yards per game. At the same price, Cam Newton ($8,400) is in play against the New York Giants as well, showing his usual rushing upside with three rushing touchdowns already through three games.
