Now that we've got all those pesky bye weeks out of the way, we're back up to 13 games on the main slate, six of which have at least a 48.0 over/under, with three even exceeding the 54.0 mark. Those projected high-scoring affairs include some of the usual suspects, with a potential shootout between the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (55.0 over/under), and both the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams implied for totals above 32 points against the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, respectively.
We'll dig into that and more in our weekly FanDuel primer, where we give you an overview of the Sunday main slate to help you get started on your research. As always, we recommend checking out all of numberFire's premium tools at your disposal. In particular, the heat map is a great way to get a general overview of the slate's implied totals, and every team's strengths and weaknesses. You also have access to numberFire's weekly projections, which can assist you in nailing down who might be the slate's top scorers and best values.
Be sure to also pay attention to inactives prior to Sunday's games, which can often completely change the makeup of a given slate. After all, injuries can have a huge impact on playing time, where an otherwise low-priced backup can suddenly find his way into a feature role and become an excellent play.
Now, let's run through some of this week's top plays on the FanDuel main slate.
Quarterbacks
Cam Newton ($8,700 on FanDuel): Like practically every week, whoever faces the woeful Bucs defense draws our attention, and that's even more the case when we have someone like Cam Newton on the opposing sideline. Tampa Bay's defense ranks 27th in passing yards allowed per game (274.3), 30th in yards allowed per pass attempt (8.7) and 32nd in completion percentage allowed (73.1), so it's no surprise they rank 30th against the pass by numberFire's schedule-adjusted metrics. Meanwhile, Newton has been rock solid all year, tossing multiple touchdowns in 10 out of 11 games, while adding his usual allotment of rushing yards per game (37.9). He's averaging 23.5 FanDuel points per game and has dropped below 18 only once all season.
