After a long offseason, Week 1 is in the books, and just like that, we're looking ahead to Week 2.
Here are some of the best additions you can make to your season-long fantasy football squads based on everything we know so far. (I'll mostly stick to players rostered on no more than 60% of Yahoo teams and also list some other viable pickups who may be available in shallower leagues or relevant only in deeper leagues).
Quarterbacks
Carson Wentz, Commanders
Roster Percentage: 13%
With the Monday game still left to play, Carson Wentz is currently the QB4 for Week 1. While he benefitted from a great matchup and some touchdown luck, Wentz gets another great matchup -- at the Detroit Lions -- next week and looks like a top streaming option for Week 2.
There's a chance we all underrated the Washington Commanders' supporting cast for this year, and the Commanders' weapons can help Wentz turn in a solid QB2-type campaign. Terry McLaurin is the real deal -- we all knew that. But, rookie receiver Jahan Dotson scored twice in Week 1, Curtis Samuel had a team-leading eight grabs and found paydirt, and Logan Thomas (3 catches, 45 yards) looked like himself in his return from injury.
In one-quarterback leagues, Wentz is only a streamer, but he's worth using in Week 2. He can deliver another good output in a game against a Lions D that just gave up a 38 spot to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Others to Consider:
Trevor Lawrence (62%; vs. Colts), Matt Ryan (43%; at Jaguars), Jared Goff (21%; vs. Commanders), Jacoby Brissett (2%; vs. Jets)
Running Backs
Jeff Wilson Jr., 49ers
Roster Percentage: 16%
Jeff Wilson is one of the priority adds on the first run of waivers.
San Francisco 49ers starting running back Elijah Mitchell exited early in Week 1 with a knee injury, which thrust Wilson into a significant role. We've seen Wilson flash in the past, and we know how productive of a role the Niners' lead-back gig can be. This run game could eat in a Week 2 date with the Seattle Seahawks.
Admittedly, Wilson didn't do much in the monsoon game on Sunday in Chicago (11 total touches and 30 total yards), and both Trey Lance and Deebo Samuel are going to be involved in the running game. But any starting running back is worth an add, and unless we get positive news on Mitchell before waivers run, we have to assume Wilson is now the 49ers' top back.
In deeper formats, Niner backs Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price are worth a look, too. Mason appears to have the edge on Davis-Price right now; Davis-Price was a healthy scratch in Week 1.
Jaylen Warren, Steelers
Roster Percentage: 4%
Jaylen Warren is another back who might be pushed into a starting role due to injury.
Najee Harris got dinged up in overtime on Sunday in the Pittsburgh Steelers' wild win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Warren was the next man up sans Harris, playing every snap in overtime once Harris went down.
If Harris misses time, Warren could be in for a heavy workload. The key word there is if, as early reports say Harris "should be fine." However, Warren is absolutely worth having on your radar, and hopefully, we get more news on Harris before waivers run. If Harris is out for any time, Warren will be a hot pickup.
James Robinson, Jaguars
Roster Percentage: 58%
James Robinson just keeps producing for the Jags.
With Travis Etienne making his NFL debut in Week 1, Robinson stole the show, turning 11 carries into 66 yards and a pair of tuddies. He added one catch for three yards. Etienne, meanwhile, logged only 4 carries and 2 catches, although he amassed 65 total yards.
It's likely Etienne's role grows as the season progresses, and Etienne played two more snaps than Robinson did, but it's apparent Robinson isn't going to fade quietly. And J-Rob might keep hold of the goal-line duties all season long. As such, Robinson should be rostered in more than 58% of leagues.
Darrell Henderson, Rams
Roster Percentage: 76%
Even though Darrell Henderson is the last running back I'm writing up, if he's available in your league, he needs to be your top add. I didn't put him higher because he's so highly rostered on Yahoo, but his roster percentage is lower on some other sites.
Henderson ran as the Los Angeles Rams' clear lead back in Week 1. Cam Akers didn't play a snap until the second quarter, and Henderson finished with 13 carries for 47 yards in addition to 5 receptions for 28 yards.
The Rams' offense will have better days than what we saw from them against the Buffalo Bills. LA is in a massive bounce-back spot in Week 2 at home versus the Atlanta Falcons. Henderson is a must-start for that one, so if you're in a league in which he's available, go get him. He should be 100% rostered.
Others to Consider:
Jamaal Williams (47%), Khalil Herbert (41%), Rachaad White (38%), Isiah Pacheco (31%), Kenyan Drake (21%), Rex Burkhead (13%), Eno Benjamin (8%), Jerick McKinnon (5%)
Wide Receivers
Jarvis Landry, Saints
Roster Percentage: 42%
Michael Thomas grabbed headlines with a two-score day, but Jarvis Landry's usage was excellent. He either led or tied for the lead in all of snaps, routes, targets, and receiving yards among New Orleans Saints skill guys. Landry ended up making 7 catches for 114 yards on 9 targets.
Landry's role might trend downwards throughout the season as Thomas rounds into form and rookie Chris Olave progresses, but he very clearly has a key role right now, making him a quality waiver add.
Tyler Boyd, Bengals
Roster Percentage: 56%
Tee Higgins suffered a concussion in Week 1, which casts doubt on his ability to play in Week 2. If Higgins sits, Boyd will likely operate as the Cincinnati Bengals' number-two wideout.
In Week 1, Boyd got 7 looks and made 4 catches for 33 yards -- all of which were second among Cincy wideouts. Boyd's 80 snaps were also the second-most for Cincinnati's receivers. The Bengals' offense was out of whack all day against Pittsburgh, and Boyd's ceiling is much higher than his Week 1 results suggest in a Week 2 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
Check for updates on Higgins. If the stud receiver is looking unlikely to suit up in Week 2, Boyd is a plug-and-play option.
Romeo Doubs, Packers
Roster Percentage: 34%
Romeo Doubs generated a lot of buzz this offseason, and he looks to have a significant role already.
Doubs led the Green Bay Packers receivers in targets (5), catches (4), and yards (37). Obviously, those are underwhelming bottom-line totals, and Allen Lazard will be back eventually. But the Packers' offseason praise of Doubs wasn't for show, and he could wind up running as the number-two receiver behind Lazard for much of the campaign.
Doubs is well worth picking up heading into Week 2. There will be brighter days ahead for Aaron Rodgers and company.
Fellow rookie Christian Watson needs to be on your radar, as well.
Devin Duvernay, Ravens
Roster Percentage: 31%
We know there's volume up for grabs in the Baltimore Ravens' receiver room. Devin Duvernay took advantage in Week 1.
Duvernay torched the Jets for 4 receptions, 54 yards, and 2 scores. His 4 targets were just one fewer than what Rashod Bateman saw, and Duvernay's 29 snaps were just 8 fewer than Bateman's 37.
As expected, Mark Andrews (7 targets and 47 snaps) was the clear focal point of Baltimore's passing attack, but Duvernay appears set for a solid role. I wouldn't get too carried away here, but Duvernay might get more looks this year than most assumed.
Others to Consider:
Julio Jones (62%), Jakobi Meyers (38%), Romeo Doubs (34%), Jahan Dotson (23%), Josh Palmer (21%), Robbie Anderson (10%), Curtis Samuel (6%), Kyle Philips (1%)
Tight Ends
Tyler Higbee, Rams
Roster Percentage: 55%
Tyler Higbee was targeted nine times in Week 1. That's currently tied for the league lead at the position. Tight end figures to be the wasteland it usually is outside of the top guys, so Higbee needs to be rostered nearly universally heading into a dope Week 2 date with the Falcons.
With Allen Robinson mostly invisible in Week 1, LA needs someone to step up behind Cooper Kupp. Higbee can be that guy. There were reasons to like him as a sleeper tight end prior to the year, and with a quality role in what should be a good offense, Higbee can return low-end TE1 numbers in 2022.
Others to Consider:
Irv Smith Jr. (57%), Gerald Everett (27%), Robert Tonyan (23%), Taysom Hill (10%)
