Quarterback streaming isn't for everyone, but if you're in a standard league -- like a 10- or 12-team league that features just one starting signal caller -- grabbing potentially productive quarterbacks in good matchups off the waiver wire is often doable.
Sure, you won't have the luxury of setting it and forgetting it with Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, but when the top-end signal-callers draw a tough matchup, their upside can oftentimes be matched by a waiver-wire option in a more favorable situation.
If you're looking for some quarterback options from the waiver wire -- regardless of league size -- we have you covered. Here are three quarterbacks rostered in fewer than roughly 40% of Yahoo leagues who are in good spots this week.
Marcus Mariota, Falcons
Yahoo Roster Percentage: 14%
Marcus Mariota is a standout streaming option this week versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
Mariota and the Atlanta Falcons are 6.5-point road underdogs, but that's a good thing for Mariota's passing volume. In Atlanta's three losses this year, Mariota has attempted 33, 26 and 25 passes. In Atlanta's three wins, he's thrown only 14, 19 and 20 times.
Despite a win, Mariota had a nice fantasy day in Week 6. Aided by 50 rushing yards and a score as a runner, Mariota put up 24.16 fantasy points. He's run for 111 yards over the past two weeks, and that lifts both his floor and his ceiling.
We project Mariota for 15.31 fantasy points and rank him as the week's QB15.
Jimmy Garoppolo, Niners
Yahoo Roster Percentage: 39%
The San Francisco 49ers are 25th in pass rate this year, but they should have to sling it more this week in a clash with the Kansas City Chiefs. The game has a 48.5-point total and 3.5-point spread, which sets up as a pretty great fantasy environment.
Jimmy Garoppolo has scored between 19 and 16 fantasy points in three of his five games, counting his relief appearance in Week 2. This is one of his best matchups to date, as KC permits the third-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks (21.9).
We have Jimmy G going for 14.69 points and slot him as the QB17.
Mac Jones, Patriots
Yahoo Roster Percentage: 17%
It's not a lock Mac Jones returns from injury this week to face the Chicago Bears on Monday night. But if he does, he's a sweet add off the waiver wire.
Our model actually projects him above both Mariota and Garoppolo, as we peg Jones to produce 16.52 points, making him our QB12.
The New England Patriots' offense is red-hot right now, scoring 29 and 38 points in their last two games. They've put up at least 24 points in four straight weeks, and they should have success versus Chicago, a team that ranks seventh-worst in defense, per our metrics.
Jones, who might have been dropped in shallower two-quarterback leagues, is a quality option this week if he plays, and he's a fine QB2 the rest of the way.
