San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon was scheduled to be rested in Week 7 against the New England Patriots, per head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Shanahan said the team had planned to rest McKinnon due to the larger workload he took on earlier this season. McKinnon wound up rushing 3 times for negative-1 yards in the 33-6 victory after Jeff Wilson exited with an ankle injury, but it was a surprising and disappointing outcome after Raheem Mostert (ankle) was placed on injured reserve last week. McKinnon could see a larger role in Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks if Wilson is sidelined. However, Tevin Coleman (knee) may be available for the first time since Week 2.
McKinnon is averaging 9.3 FanDuel points per game and 5.4 yards per touch. He is adding the second-fewest Rushing Net Expected Points per carry (0.05) among the six 49ers running backs with a carry this season.
