The New England Patriots have placed running back Ty Montgomery (right knee) on the injured reserve Tuesday.
Many believed that Montgomery would land on the injured reserve before the season began after he suffered a knee injury in the preseason, but the versatile veteran was able to suit up for the Patriots' Week 1 loss before aggravating the injury further. He'll spend at least the next four weeks on the injured reserve.
The Patriots used a full-blown three-way committee with their backfield in Week 1, but Montgomery's absence should narrow the running back opportunities down to just Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. Both backs should land in the RB2/FLEX territory in Week 2.
