Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson said he expects to play the "third-down" role this season.
Gibson is set to replace J.D. McKissic as Washington's primary pass-catching back in 2023. Brian Robinson is expected to handle most of the early-down work, but Gibson should see comparable volume as the backup. He set career-highs last season with 46 catches and 363 receiving yards.
Gibson is the RB33 in numberFire's preseason rankings and our models project him for 155.7 carries, 661.7 rushing yards, 34.1 receptions (46.0 targets), 224.3 receiving yards, and 6.46 total touchdowns. Among the 61 backs with at least 20 targets last season, Gibson averaged the ninth-most yards per route run (1.48).
