Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage will miss the 2023 season with a knee injury he suffered in practice on Wednesday.
Gage sustained a non-contact injury and had to be carted off the practice field. The Buccaneers will now be looking for a new No. 3 receiver behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. They might bring in a free agent, but the most likely in-house candidates to step up are rookie Trey Palmer, Deven Thompkins, and David Moore.
Prior to the injury, Gage was numberFire's WR81 for the season. Our models projected him for a 12.5% target share (74.3 targets) from Baker Mayfield. Palmer had 4 catches on 4 targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' preseason opener. He also returned two kickoffs for 54 yards. Thompkins had a pair of catches and a rush attempt, plus he returned a kick and a punt. Moore had 66 yards on 3 catches and 4 targets.
