Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that wide receiver Chase Claypool (healthy) will not rejoin his team ahead of their Week 5 game on Thursday Night Football.
Claypool was a healthy scratch for the Bears in Week 4 amidst concerns about his effort and his statements to the media about the Bears' coaching staff. The team is reportedly considering trading the former second-round pick less than a year after trading for him themselves. Claypool is now trending towards missing a second straight game as a healthy inactive for the Bears this season as they clamor for their first win of the season.
Claypool has caught just 4 of his 14 targets this season, converting them into 51 yards and 1 touchdown. His off-ball performance has left much to be desired as well, to the point where it seems unlikely that any team will show interest as a potential suitor via trade. Claypool's absence coincided with the Bears' best offensive outing of the season, though Chicago did have the opportunity to play the Denver Broncos' league-worst defense for that contest.
