San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is dealing with an oblique and rib injury, per head coach Kyle Shanahan.
The 49ers initially said McCaffrey exited Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns early due to an oblique injury, but Shanahan informed the media their star running back also injured a rib. Either way, it sounds like minor issues and McCaffrey has an extra day to prepare for Week 7 because the 49ers play on Monday Night Football versus the Minnesota Vikings. Shanahan is expected to provide another update on Monday afternoon. Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell will share backfield work if McCaffrey winds up being unavailable.
CMC finished with 14 touches for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 6. Mason out-snapped Mitchell 15-7 and rushed 5 times for 27 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell rushed twice for negative-3 yards. The Vikings are allowing the seventh-fewest FanDuel points per game to opposing running backs this season, compared to allowing the sixth-most to wide receivers.
