Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (back) will not play Week 7 against the Chicago Bears, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Garoppolo injured his back in last week's win over the New England Patriots and it kept him out for the second half. Brian Hoyer came in off the bench, but rookie Aidan O'Connell drew the start in Week 4 when Garoppolo was out, so it's unclear who will be under center versus the Bears in a plus matchup. Neither option represents a significant drop-off from what Garoppolo has been providing for the Raiders offense. Hoyer threw the ball 10 times and didn't target anyone more than twice versus New England, but Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers should maintain similar value regardless of the quarterback.
Garoppolo averaged 0.32 Passing Net Expected Points per attempt versus the Patriots in Week 6 and Hoyer registered 0.54 Passing Net Expected Points in relief. The Bears have the second-worst pass defense in the NFL, according to numberFire's opponent-adjusted NEP model.
