Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford's X-rays on his right thumb came back negative, per multiple reports.
Stafford may still miss time, but the positive news is he didn't suffer a broken thumb in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams will visit the Green Bay Packers in Week 9 and then go on bye, so they may hold Stafford out until they return to action. Brett Rypien is second on the depth chart behind Stafford.
Stafford is averaging 0.10 Passing Net Expected Points per attempt and Rypien is averaging negative-0.42 Passing NEP per attempt, so Stafford's absence would likely be a steep drop for the Rams' offense. Rypien targeted Cooper Kupp 5 times in Week 8. Tyler Higbee was targeted twice and Puka Nacua was targeted once.
