Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell is in line to start Week 9 against the New York Giants on Sunday, reports Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
According to Bonsignore, the Raiders "are leaning toward" starting O'Connell over Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday. The Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler, and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi on Tuesday night, so it would make sense for them to make a change at quarterback as well. O'Connell, a fourth-round rookie, has made one start and one relief appearance this season.
Among the 38 quarterbacks with at least 50 dropbacks this season, Garoppolo is 22nd and O'Connell is 27th in Passing Net Expected Points per attempt. The Giants' pass defense ranks 15th in numberFire’s opponent-adjusted NEP model and they allow the eighth-fewest FanDuel points per game to quarterbacks this season.
