Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be replaced by rookie Aidan O'Connell, reports Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Raiders are also making a change at quarterback after they fired head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler, and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi on Tuesday night. Garoppolo completed just 10 of 21 pass attempts for 126 scoreless yards in a 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions in primetime on Monday night. He also threw his league-leading ninth interception. O'Connell's second career start will be against the New York Giants on Sunday.
Among the 38 quarterbacks with at least 50 dropbacks this season, Garoppolo is 22nd and O'Connell is 27th in Passing Net Expected Points per attempt. The Giants' pass defense ranks 15th in numberFire’s opponent-adjusted NEP model and they allow the eighth-fewest FanDuel points per game to quarterbacks this season.
