Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (ribs) is expected to return in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers, per head coach Dan Campbell.
Montgomery hasn't played since Week 6 due to a ribs injury. Campbell indicated that rookie Jahmyr Gibbs has earned a larger role moving forward, so Montgomery may not continue to average 20.0 touches per game over the rest of the season. However, he should still see around half of the backfield work in a prolific Detroit offense.
Montgomery is averaging 0.10 and Gibbs is averaging 0.09 Rushing Net Expected Points per carry this season. Among the backs with 50-plus rushes, Montgomery is ranked 6th and Gibbs is 8th in that metric. The Chargers are 21st in FanDuel points allowed per game to running backs this season.
