New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones could be replaced as the starting quarterback after the Week 11 bye, per comments from Bill Belichick on Tuesday.
“We have a lot of things to work on this week as a team," Belichick replied when asked if Mac Jones is still the Patriots' starting quarterback. "We’ll work through those. That is what we are going to do this week.” Jones has struggled as the starter all season and been pulled from multiple games, so Belichick could turn to Bailey Zappe or Will Grier after the bye. However, neither option is likely going to be an upgrade for Demario Douglas or any of the other pass-catchers on the Patriots.
Among the 27 quarterbacks with at least 200 dropbacks this season, Jones is averaging the third-fewest Passing Net Expected Points per attempt (negative-0.12), ahead of only Zach Wilson (negative-0.18) and Bryce Young (negative-0.18). Zappe is averaging negative-0.50 Passing NEP on 26 dropbacks.
