The New England Patriots are reportedly finalizing a trade that will send quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
As a first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones helped lead the Patriots to a playoff berth in his rookie season. Unfortunately, things fell apart both on the field and off it for the Patriots and Jones, leading to multiple benchings in his second and third seasons. The Jaguars are likely hopeful that Jones can develop back into a decent backup after starter Trevor Lawrence dealt with injuries last season, while the Patriots are now officially moving on from the "Mac Jones Era". Hopefully the change of scenery will help Jones reset after the brutal last two years he spent in New England.
With Jones now (almost) officially out of town, the Patriots can officially begin the search for a new quarterback. The Pats hold the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, putting them in range to draft their quarterback of the future if they so choose. Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels (+140) is the frontrunner to be selected third overall according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Draft Betting Odds market.
