The New England Patriots are signing free agent quarterback Jacoby Brissett to a 1-year deal worth $8 million, Ian Rapoport reports.
Brissett is signing a one-year deal with the team that originally drafted him - the New England Patriots. The journeyman has logged quality reps for the Cleveland Browns and the Washington Commanders over the last two seasons and has a legitimate chance of becoming the Patriots' Week 1 starter following the departure of Mac Jones via trade earlier this week.
Brissett opened the 2022 season as Cleveland's starter while Deshaun Watson served out his suspension, and surprisingly performed better in his opportunities than Watson did with his. While his reps were limited with the Commanders last year, he still completed 18 of 23 passes for 224 yards and 3 scores. He should be a strong bridge quarterback for the rebuilding Patriots this season.
