New York Jets running backs Matt Forte and Bilal Powell will have a nearly "even carry split," claimed NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater while speaking on Next Level Fantasy with Mike Clay.
When you consider that the Jets brought back Powell on almost the same deal that they signed Forte to, along with the addition of Khiry Robinson for short-yardage work, it seems pretty obvious that the ball is going to be spread around in the backfield. However, based on Forte's current draft cost (average draft position of RB14, according to FantasyPros), the 30-year-old back is being severely over-valued, while Powell makes for an excellent late-round selection.
Our algorithms remain right in line with Forte's ADP for now, currently projecting him as the 14th-best running back. We have him pegged for 188 carries for 841 rushing yards and 5.35 touchdowns, to go with 49 receptions for 391 yards receiving and 1.64 touchdowns. Powell projects to rush 89 times for 375 yards for 1.63 scores, in addition to 45 catches for 350 yards and 0.98 touchdowns through the air. That's good for 50th among running backs, according to our metrics.
