Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis has ligament damage in his ankle and is expected to miss "at least" the first month of the season, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.
This is a significant loss for the Colts' defense, as Davis is a premier cover corner in the league, and easily the best defensive player in Indianapolis. He appears to be "out indefinitely," for lack of a better term, after injuring his ankle last week at practice. In response, the Colts signed veteran corner Antonio Cromartie on Monday.
Taking the injury into consideration, our models currently expect Davis to have 43.78 tackles and 3.34 interceptions in 2016. The Colts' defense ranked 18th in the league in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play last year.
