Vikings' Adrian Peterson has ligament damage in knee

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has some ligament damage in his right knee, a source told Bleacher Report's Jason Cole.

What It Means:

Cole says "there is confidence he'll play again this year," but Peterson is likely staring at a multi-week absence. USA Today's Tom Pelissero reported Peterson "didn't have that much swelling" and he is able to extend his leg. Peterson may have a sprained MCL or something similar. The Vikings were struggling mightily to run the ball before Peterson's injury and had a ton of success in the passing game when he went out.

Peterson accrued -3.19 Net Expected Points on his 12 rushing attempts before exiting the game Sunday night, per numberFire Live.
