Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin was benched in Week 16, and head coach Dirk Koetter said "We have four backs and we can't give them all touches."
The Bucs' backfield is finally healthy but we never thought Martin would be the odd man out. Coming off an All-Pro campaign in 2015, Martin has been a major disappointment this year, averaging a mere 2.9 yards per carry with three touchdowns over eight contests. It's pretty telling that Koetter was willing to bench his $35 million running back in a game with playoff implications. Jacquizz Rodgers played well enough to retain the starting job (63 yards and a touchdown) but it's unclear who will get the nod for next week's regular season finale.
Rodgers picked up 1.84 Net Expected Points on 15 rushing attempts, per numberFire Live.
