The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to release running back Ryan Mathews following the addition of LeGarrette Blount, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
This isn't much of a surprise as Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski has been saying for months that Mathews time would soon be coming to an end in Philadelphia. He's coming off neck surgery and won't officially be released until he's healthy. Mathews turns 30 in October.
Out of the 27 running backs to see 150-plus rushing attempts in 2016, Mathews ranked 11th in terms of Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play.
