The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hoping running back Jacquizz Rodgers "can step in for Doug Martin (suspension) these first three games," ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine reports.
With Martin suspended for the first three games of the season, Rodgers is set to open the year against the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings. Currently being drafted in the double-digit rounds of fantasy drafts, Rodgers makes for an excellent value selection. Charles Sims, Peyton Barber, and fifth-round rookie Jeremy McNichols also all figure to see some work while Martin is inactive.
In five starts last season, Rodgers averaged 92.4 rushing yards on 21.4 attempts per game while finding the end zone twice. His 0.04 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt was 11th-best among the 42 running backs to top 100 total carries for the year.
