The Detroit Lions gave first-team goal line reps to running back Zach Zenner over Ameer Abdullah in practice on Friday.
The Lions continue to say Abdullah is their "featured back", but receiving back Theo Riddick is bound to dominate passing plays both between the 20's and in close. If Zenner steals red zone carries, the "featured" label is fluff at best. Abdullah is shaping up to be a riskier fantasy pick than expected.
Our models project Abdullah for 723 rushing yards and 5.06 touchdowns on 156 carries, with 37 catches for 334 receiving yards and 1.32 air scores. That's just outside our top-20 fantasy projections for running backs this year. Zenner comes in as only the 72nd-best fantasy rusher in 2017.
