The New England Patriots traded quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers because they "couldn't come close to a contract extension," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Garoppolo turned down a high-end offer for a backup from the Patriots and was expected to walk in free agency. The 49ers may have overpaid for a quarterback that would have been available in the offseason, but they wanted to secure the right to negotiate with him exclusively. Despite reports Garoppolo may not play this year, it would be shocking if the 49ers didn't see what they have in him.
numberFire's models like Garoppolo to throw for 1,331.7 passing yards, 5.6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions if he starts the last six games of the 2017 season.
