NHL Trade Deadline Winners and Losers
Which NHL teams improved after this year's trade deadline, and which ones showed they're no longer in it?

Loser: Florida Panthers

Arrivals: (F) Jaromir Jagr, (F) Dany Heatley, 2015 3rd-round pick, 2016 3rd-round pick

Departures: (F) Tomas Fleischmann, (F) Sean Bergenheim, 2015 2nd-round pick, 2016 3rd- and 7th-round picks

Thinking about the future while remaining competitive is something the best organizations do in sports. Florida appeared to be trying to do so this season, but the players attached to the draft picks are a bit puzzling. Jaromir Jagr and Dany Heatley offer some additional benefits to a team on the bubble for a wild card spot, but there's no reason to add players just to add players. Jagr has nine goals this season, but can't expect better stats on a young team looking for a better sense of direction. Maybe he’ll put butts in the seats on his farewell tour while retirement house shopping though.

Heatley was a throw-in to get a 3rd-round pick for this season. In 67 minutes of ice time with Anaheim, Heatley registered a 42.7 CF% and no points in six games. Sean Bergenheim and the team parted ways after a Bergenheim expressed his displeasure regarding his playing time. Getting anything for a disgruntled player is a small victory.
