In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
A large, 10-game slate takes place on Tuesday. Let's see which stacks are the best for tonight.
Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers have warded off many obstacles to remain first in the Atlantic Division. They changed coaches because of Joel Quenneville's involvement in the Chicago Blackhawks' scandal and haven't missed a beat. They also were without their captain for eight games, but he'll return to the lineup tonight.
It looks like Aleksander Barkov ($8,600) will be back. He'll skate alongside Carter Verhaeghe ($5,100) and Maxim Mamin ($3,200) at even strength. This is a fairly easy-to-get-to first-line stack, but it doesn't come with any power-play correlation.
If you want power-play correlation on Florida, you can look to the second line. Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,900), Sam Bennett ($6,500) and Sam Reinhart ($6,300) have been playing well together. Huberdeau has nine points in his last three games, and Reinhart has a goal in each of those games. If you want to play Barkov or Aaron Ekblad ($6,800) with them as a power-play stack, that certainly would make sense.
The Panthers will play the St. Louis Blues tonight in a rematch from Saturday's game in which Florida won in a shootout. Florida absolutely pummeled the Blues in terms of the shot count, producing a massive 5.26 expected goals. It's unlikely that they will be able to match that, but having Barkov in the lineup for this game should help the Panthers control things.
Florida's implied team total is currently sitting at 3.47 goals, the second-highest on tonight's slate. With some of the salaries getting really high, the Panthers' second line looks like a pretty decent value.
Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild have somewhat quietly won six games in a row and sit atop the Central. They used to get accused of being a boring team, but that can't really be said anymore. They average 3.71 goals per game, the third-most in the league.
The Wild are led offensively by Kirill Kaprizov ($8,300). He's following up his Rookie of the Year season with another good one, notching 29 points in 24 games. Ryan Hartman ($6,400) has been something of a revelation for the Wild at center, as he leads the team in goals with 13. Mats Zuccarello ($5,700) is a solid playmaker who is averaging a point per game on the season.
A lot of the DFS attention will be paid to Minnesota's opponents. They'll face the Edmonton Oilers on the road. This isn't a scary matchup, however, as the Oilers are weakened defensively with Duncan Keith and Cody Ceci out of the lineup. They've had back-to-back losses to the Seattle Kraken and Los Angeles Kings in which they allowed nine total goals to teams that aren't too impressive offensively.
Given the full correlation and how good the Wild are defensively, you could make a case that the Minnesota stack is better than an Edmonton stack. The Wild will likely come in less popular, so that's a bonus if you decide to play this stack in tournaments.
Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks could be a good under-the-radar stack to use. Their first line has been very productive of late, and it comes at affordable salaries.
The star of this line is Trevor Zegras ($6,000), who has seven assists in his last three games. He also has 33 shots on goal in his last 10, so he isn't totally a pass-first player. Sonny Milano ($5,000) has six points in his last three games and seems to finally be delivering on his talent. Rickard Rakell ($5,200) is possibly the most dangerous goalscorer on the team and has two goals and 14 shots on goal in the last three games.
The matchup is very appealing for the Ducks, as they face the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have really been struggling of late. They've lost eight of their last nine games and allowed an average of five goals per game in that stretch.
Anaheim is one of the better value stacks of the night, and with 10 games on the slate, their popularity should be kept down. They have a healthy implied team total of 3.11, so the oddsmakers do expect the Ducks to play well in this game. If that's the case, it'll likely come through this line, making them a nice option to stack.
Others to Consider: Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders
