Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal of risk, too. The right low-salary plays can give you good production while affording you more chances to roster high-salary studs.
Wednesday night features three games with a marquis game in New York. Let's pursue some value plays!
Filip Chytil, Center, New York Rangers
FanDuel Salary: $4,000
Filip Chytil and "Chytil Heat" is a real thing right now.
Yes, he is now playing more minutes (14:58 per night) in the past couple of games and has real-world points in four straight starts currently.
The defensive depth of the Toronto Maple Leafs can be questionable at times, and the speed of Chytil has to be considered a major asset. Chytil is even shooting the puck a bit more (eight shots in the past three contests) along with 10 scoring chances created.
The center could fly under the radar a bit on Wednesday night.
Andreas Johnsson, Wing, New Jersey Devils
FanDuel Salary: $3,900
Andreas Johnsson has slid back into a more comfortable middle-six slot for the New Jersey Devils. With the Devils' coaching staff having last line change on Wednesday, Johnsson can be deployed a little differently -- much to his fantasy hockey benefit.
Johnsson is a "less is more" type of player. He averages 70 seconds less time at home, yet he has 6 goals and 10 apples at home in 18 games. That even includes a power-play goal.
The winger averages 2.11 shots per game at home, which is almost a half shot a game more than he does on the road.
There isn't much danger, either, since Johnsson's salary has slid back below $4,000.
Arizona is only projected to allow 2.89 goals on Wednesday from our model. That seems a little low for the lowly Coyotes. Johnsson will get his chances against a team that allows 35-plus shots on the road regularly.
Janis Moser, Defenseman, Arizona Coyotes
FanDuel Salary: $4,000
With the Arizona Coyotes having issues scoring, Janis Moser's 3 goals in his first 10 games have been refreshing. The Yotes have played some improved hockey of late (4-4-2 in their last ten games) as well.
At the very least for Arizona, they face a New Jersey team that last played six nights ago and could be due for some rust.
Moser is starting to create a little buzz. He's produced at least two scoring chances a game in this stint with the team. The 2021 draft pick shows an ability to bring the puck up the ice with speed and is not afraid to take chances. He also has nine blocked shots in his last six games, and he's topped 20 minutes of playing time twice.
With good value defensemen at a premium on this slate, Moser is very much an option on Wednesday night.
