Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal of risk, too. The right low-salary plays can give you good production while affording you more chances to roster high-salary studs.
Wednesday night has five games on the docket. Let's pursue some value plays!
Cole Sillinger, Center, Columbus Blue Jackets
FanDuel Salary: $4,000
Cole Sillinger is worth taking a look at Wednesday night as the Columbus Blue Jackets entertain the Calgary Flames.
Sillinger returned from COVID protocol over the weekend and resumed his middle-six role, playing a little more than 12 minutes against the Ottawa Senators. He fired two shots on goal and blocked two shots. The pivot has a decent floor for Columbus -- and more importantly for DFS players.
The Flames can be solid but can be vulnerable to speed up the middle. Sillinger has plenty of burst, and that could cause some matchup problems on Wednesday night.
The center will not be heavily rostered with just a so-so role, but his talent is worth the investment on a small slate.
Dominik Kubalik, Wing, Chicago Blackhawks
FanDuel Salary: $4,300
Dominik Kubalik has endured a bit of a rough patch lately. The Chicago Blackhawks winger could get a boost against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, though.
Kubalik has a decent floor; in the past three games, he has seven shots on goal and four blocked shots. That is not bad.
The winger is averaging 2.67 shots per game and three scoring chances per game over the past half-dozen games, so he's looking for his shot more often than this salary would suggest.
Chicago and Detroit are projected only to score 5.4 goals tonight, which feels a bit low -- even with Chicago's inconsistent offense. Kubalik is worth a shot should this game glide past its total.
Mike Reilly, Defenseman, Boston Bruins
FanDuel Salary: $4,200
With the Boston Bruins going up against an Avalanche team that allows 2.95 goals per game, Mike Reilly garners a look on Wednesday.
Reilly is up to four goals and six assists on the season. Those numbers are far from good, but he does have a goal and three assists during that span. That's included a small floor of and at least 4.8 FanDuel points in every one of those contests.
The defenseman's speed and quick decision-making could be a real asset on a night where the pace is expected to be high. Boston ranks third in shots on goal, and Colorado is fifth.
With salaries a bit elevated even among value options in this contest on Wednesday, Reilly is still in a position to exceed expectations.
