Spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.
In NHL DFS, it’s different from spending up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are spending salary in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.
Tuesday night brings us seven games on the schedule. Here are a few studs.
Connor McDavid, Center, Edmonton Oilers
FanDuel Salary: $10,000
The Edmonton Oilers will be in an entertaining matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night in Edmonton.
Expect Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and company to push the pace against a Vegas team eyeing to stay up in the Pacific Division standings.
McDavid has four goals in his last five games and registered a power-play point for the first time in that span against the Washington Capitals. He is starting to get back into the rhythm we've gotten accustomed to from him.
We project Edmonton for 3.22 goals tonight.
The Oilers also carry some lower-salaried stacking options like Evan Bouchard and Kailer Yamamoto.
Max Pacioretty, Wing, Vegas Golden Knights
FanDuel Salary: $10,000
The risk with Max Pacioretty is very palpable. He has not been quite the same since returning from surgery.
Hopefully, a week off and some full practices have helped him get back into full shape. He did have two assists in his last game against the Buffalo Sabres and has a solid matchup versus Edmonton today.
Typically, Pacioretty averages more than four shots a game and five scoring chances a night. He has just four shots on goal and six scoring chances since returning to the lineup. Expect those numbers to change tonight. Also, he has an eight-game goal-scoring drought. That may be something that ends Tuesday night.
Vegas needs to see the pre-surgery Pacioretty, and we should get that guy in this spot.
Thomas Chabot, Defenseman, Ottawa Senators
FanDuel Salary: $6,300
Thomas Chabot is starting to look like his normal self, and that is good news for DFS players.
With the Ottawa Senators equally as unrested as their opponents, the Carolina Hurricanes, there should be a few more scoring chances than usual to be had in this clash.
Chabot has a goal and three assists in his last four games. His offensive game seems to be coming back into focus. The floor is always there. Of late, two shots a game and two blocked shots per night has buoyed his numbers.
With Ottawa allowing 33.3 shots per game and Chabot playing 26-plus minutes per night, his floor will be elevated already. The offense is just a bonus at this point.
