NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Sergei Bobrovsky ($8,500): Simply put, the Florida Panthers need to pick up a win tonight. The Panthers are one of the best teams in the league but find themselves in the midst of a three-game losing streak. They come in as -420 home favorites against the Ottawa Senators, putting them in a spot to right the ship. Bobrovsky has allowed three or more goals in six of his last 10 starts -- which isn't great -- but the Senators come in scoring only 2.32 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations this season, which is the 14th-lowest in the league. Hopefully, the easier matchup will allow Bobrovsky to regain some of his form from earlier in the season.
High-Priced Skaters
Elias Lindholm ($7,700): The Calgary Flames are an absolute powerhouse of an offense and boast a slate-high 4.23 implied goal total. They have been one of the best offenses throughout the entire season and are scoring 2.91 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-best in the league. They are also producing a 63.44 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created), which is the second-best in the league. Their top-line is centered by Lindholm, who comes in with 16 NHL points, 27 shots on goal, and six blocked shots in his last 10 games. Ideally, you'd look to stack him with Johnny Gaudreau ($8,400) and Matthew Tkachuk ($8,400), giving you a fully-correlated first forward line and first power-play unit.
Jonathan Huberdeau ($8,700): The Panthers are carrying a 4.21 implied total, and it's time for them to flex their offense against the weak Senators' defense. The Panthers are scoring a league-best 3.46 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, and with the Senators in the bottom half of the league in both goals allowed (2.60) and Corsi Against (60.39), the Panthers' offense is primed for a breakout. Huberdeau comes in with 75 total NHL points this season, the third-most in the league. Huberdeau is the 15th-most expensive skater on the slate. There's a clear discrepancy between his salary and his actual production, and this is a spot you absolutely want to attack. A total of 17 NHL points and 27 shots on goal over his last 10 games put Huberdeau in play in any format.
Value Skaters
Jared Spurgeon ($4,900): The Minnesota Wild are carrying a 3.68 implied total tonight -- the fourth-highest on the slate -- and have a great matchup versus the Philadelphia Flyers. Spurgeon is the defender on the first power-play for the Wild and comes in as a solid point-per-dollar option and a great option for cash games. He has a modest five NHL points in his last 10 games but comes in with 18 shots on goal and 19 blocked shots in that span. A high floor of points is always good to see, and his power-play time gives him good upside.
Alex Newhook ($4,500): The Colorado Avalanche and their 4.19 implied goal are in a clear plus-matchup tonight versus the Arizona Coyotes. Surprise, surprise -- we want to attack the Coyotes and their defense, which is allowing the third-most (3.06) goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. The Avs are scoring the third-most (3.18) goals in the same situations, giving us one of the more lopsided matchups on the slate. Newhook is on the second forward line and the second power-play unit. He's got five NHL points and 23 shots on goal over his last 10 games.
