Spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.
In NHL DFS, it’s different from paying up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are paying up in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.
Tuesday night brings down some rain with 11 games on the slate. Let's take a look at some studs.
Connor McDavid, Center, Edmonton Oilers
FanDuel Salary: $10,000
Without Auston Matthews on this slate (suspension), rostering Connor McDavid is a little bit easier on Tuesday night.
The Edmonton Oilers play one of the worst defensive teams of late in the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit has allowed 45 goals over their last eight games played. They have lost seven of those eight contests as they fall out of any hope of making the playoffs.
Edmonton and McDavid have been treading water while splitting their last eight games. McDavid has three goals and an assist in his last two games with 10 shots on goal and 14 scoring chances.
The Oilers' center is projected to score 23.7 FanDuel points, which tops all skaters. He very well could exceed that against the Red Wings.
Kyle Connor, Wing, Winnipeg Jets
FanDuel Salary: $9,600
The wing position is full of choices on Tuesday. Some are traps, and some are not.
One of the best matchups is Kyle Connor versus the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas is missing six of their key players, including starting goalie Robin Lehner. Connor is facing a struggling defense in Vegas. With Laurent Brossoit in net, that makes little difference at this point.
As for the Winnipeg Jets' winger, he has goals in four straight games and shows no signs of slowing down. He's tallied 18 shots on goal and 20 scoring chances in that four-game run.
Elsewhere, do not forget Filip Forsberg. Since hitting two posts and a crossbar last Tuesday, he has four goals and four assists in three games.
Roman Josi, Defenseman, Nashville Predators
FanDuel Salary: $7,300
It is hard to get away from Roman Josi.
While playing against the Pittsburgh Penguins may not look like the most optimal matchup, Josi is playing well above that. The defenseman has three goals and 10 assists in his last six games. Josi is a must-utilize option on Tuesday night as he vaults himself back into the Norris Trophy conversation.
The home cooking always helps as Nashville continues to score goals. With Matt Duchene, Forsberg, and Josi red-hot, it's just a question of stacking them the right way on Tuesday.
Igor Shesterkin, Goalie, New York Rangers
This was not an easy choice given that Igor Shesterkin has looked a bit human in the past week.
With the Anaheim Ducks continuing their long road trip, it arguably becomes somewhat easier to roster against them.
After a rough end to the New York Rangers' road trip in Dallas and St. Louis, playing at home may be good medicine for the Russian goaltender. Shesterkin is 16-2-2 on home ice with a goals-against average under two. He is averaging 31.1 saves per game, as well. That is a solid number.
He should see a reasonable workload in this one, which makes him more palpable to roster.
