Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy -- but also a good deal of risk, too. The right low-salary plays can give you good production while affording you more chances to roster high-salary studs.
Tuesday night has 11 games. It is time to target some budget plays.
Seth Jarvis, Center, Carolina Hurricanes
FanDuel Salary: $3,800
Let's see how long Seth Jarvis sticks in the top-six for Carolina.
As of now, Rod Brind'Amour likes the space he creates on the top line, and he has five shots with seven scoring chances in his last two games.
Jarvis has played 16-plus minutes in consecutive games for the first time in 2022. One might as well ride the wave here in one of the league's most potent offenses.
Tampa Bay is a stout matchup, but the Hurricanes can score on anyone. A sub-$4,000 option seeing this ice time for them is almost unheard of.
Frank Vatrano, Wing, New York Rangers
FanDuel Salary: $3,900
So, how will Frank Vatrano fare against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night?
There are plenty of questions with the New York Rangers forward, but scoring chances should not be in short supply. Even in his third game in four nights, Vatrano scored on Sunday with two blocked shots.
Good things should come if he continues to shoot the puck. The winger has hit the net 11 times in the last four games, and Vatrano has three goals in that time.
Though this matchup has some unknown, New Jersey's goaltending is bad (18 goals allowed in the last three games), so there is definite upside.
Jordan Spence, Defenseman, Los Angeles Kings
FanDuel Salary: $3,900
The Los Angeles Kings are still without Drew Doughty, but young Jordan Spence has shown a little presence.
Spence has a nice floor and has played at least 20 minutes in four of his last six starts. He has two-plus shots in four of those same six. Though he has just a couple of helpers, his shot from the point is above-average and tends to find its way through.
With the defender playing top-four minutes, Spence has added benefit against a Nashville Predators team that just played late Monday night.
There are a few other intriguing choices to look at from the DFS value bin on the blue-line, but Spence presents the best opportunity.
Karel Vejmelka, Goalie, Arizona Coyotes
FanDuel Salary: $6,800
This is Karel Vejmelka's team for the rest of the season. That could be good news for the Coyotes.
Arizona has a good matchup against an equally-poor Seattle Kraken team. Although, Vejmelka has won three of his last five starts while allowing just 12 goals.
With Seattle 8-20-3 on the road (worst in the Western Conference), the Coyotes are favored to win on Tuesday night (53.9% win probability).
The Kraken can go into long offensive droughts. They average a mere 2.57 goals per game -- 30th in the NHL. That gives Vejmelka an even better chance at picking up a win on such a thrifty salary.
When looking around the value options, Vejmelka rises above the rest.
