In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
There are only five games on Friday's slate, but we've got some teams in great spots tonight.
Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche have had to deal with absences from their lineup all year. They've managed to do a good job of dealing with it, though, as they sit with the best record in the NHL. Tonight, they'll face a team they've torched this season.
The injuries have affected the top line for Colorado. Nathan MacKinnon ($9,800) and Mikko Rantanen ($8,300) are now joined by Andre Burakovsky ($4,900) on the first line.
This line had a good game on Tuesday, with MacKinnon scoring twice and Rantanen and Burakovsky each recording two assists. Burakovsky wasn't on the top power play with his linemates but did play 20 minutes in each of the past two games.
The Avalanche also have a second line that is usable. J.T. Compher ($4,800) and Valeri Nichushkin ($6,500) are both on the first power play unit with MacKinnon and Burakovsky. They are joined at even strength by Artturi Lehkonen ($4,500), who scored his first goal as a member of the Avalanche on Tuesday.
If you play this stack, it's easier to fit in Cale Makar ($7,100) as a high-end defenseman. Either way, this stack is a nice way to get easy exposure to one of the best teams on the slate.
Colorado will face the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. These teams have met twice this season, with Colorado scoring 13 goals in those two games. MacKinnon has seven points and a stunning 22 shots on goal while Rantanen has picked up six points. Overall, Winnipeg is pretty weak defensively, allowing the fourth-most expected goals per 60 minutes.
Colorado's implied team total is 3.66 goals, making them one of the best stacks on the slate.
Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers have played some of the most chaotic games this season. That includes two games in the last week where they've come back from down four goals to win. They continue to lead the league in goals per game with 4.16 and have a chance at exploding tonight.
We saw Aleksander Barkov ($9,900) go off in the comeback on Tuesday, with a goal and three assists. He didn't bring his linemates Anthony Duclair ($5,700) or Carter Verhaeghe ($5,100) along with him, though.
That makes the Panthers tricky to stack, but there is also some information we can use to help us. The Panthers put Jonathan Huberdeau ($8,800) with Barkov for the second half of the game when they needed to come back. So you could stack Huberdeau with Barkov, and you can also add Claude Giroux ($6,600) to get another player who will play on the power play and with Huberdeau on the regular even-strength line to begin the game.
The Panthers will face the Buffalo Sabres tonight. These teams just played on Sunday, and the Panthers won 5-3. The Sabres also lost 5-3 last night and likely will have to turn to backup goaltender Dustin Tokarski now in this back-to-back scenario.
Florida has an astronomical team total that is nearly at five goals tonight. That's why it would make sense to load up on four forwards from them, such as Barkov with Huberdeau and Giroux, and maybe throw in Sam Reinhart ($6,900) for another power play piece.
Minnesota Wild
We've talked about the offenses that are first and third in goals per game, so now we'll talk about the team that's fourth. The Minnesota Wild don't have the same reputation for being offensive juggernauts like the Panthers and Avalanche, but they aren't too far behind.
The Wild have been led by Kirill Kaprizov ($9,100) all season long. He's seventh in the NHL with 40 goals on the season and eighth in points with 87. Mats Zuccarello ($7,200) have formed incredible chemistry in the last two seasons, and Zuccarello has a career-high 71 points in 61 games. Ryan Hartman ($6,200) is also having a career year with 27 goals. This trio is all linked together on the top power play.
Minnesota will take on the St. Louis Blues tonight in what could be a first-round playoff matchup. The Blues seem like a solid defensive team, but their underlying numbers aren't all that great. They allow the eighth-most expected goals and eighth-most scoring chances on a per 60 minute basis.
The Wild will definitely be less popular than the Avalanche and Panthers, but they have the upside to break the slate if they really go off tonight.
