NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Igor Shesterkin ($8,500): The New York Rangers are solid -190 home favorites against the Winnipeg Jets, putting them in a spot to come away with the win. Over the past three weeks, the Rangers are allowing 1.67 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-lowest in the league. One of the best defensive teams in the league has gotten even better as the season has gone on, giving us a strong level of consistency to get in our lineups.
Shesterkin should be in net for the Rangers, and after a brief speedbump in the middle portion of the season, he has regained his elite form. Over the past five games, he has allowed three goals or fewer in all of them. Two of those games were shutouts, and in one game, he only allowed one goal. He's an ideal option in all formats tonight due to his floor and ceiling combination.
High-Salaried Skaters
Mitch Marner ($9,600): The Toronto Maple Leafs have a 4.58 implied goal total tonight, which is the highest on the slate. That puts them in a spot to be very chalky. Their offense is firing on all cylinders right now, scoring a league-high, 4.26 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations over the past three weeks. They are now up against the Philadelphia Flyers, who, over the same time and situations, are allowing 3.92 goals (second-worst in the league).
Marner has been piling up the points with 18 NHL points and 32 shots on goal over his last 10 games. With his role on the first forward line and the first power-play secure, his ceiling is truly multiple points every night.
Steven Stamkos ($7,800): Frankly, I'm not sure why Stamkos is this under-salaried. Yes, $7,800 is affordable for a player who has 14 NHL points and 25 shots on goal over his last 10 games. Not to mention, the Tampa Bay Lightning are massive -600 home favorites against the Detroit Red Wings and come in with a 4.37 implied goal total.
For the entire season, the Red Wings are in the bottom 10 of the league in both goals allowed (3.03) and Corsi Against (58.32) (Total Shot Attempts Allowed), both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. They've been a defense we've attacked all season, and there's no reason to slow down now with the Lightning, who still have motivation to play and pick up points.
Value Skaters
Frederick Gaudreau ($5,100): The Minnesota Wild are checking all the boxes tonight with a good matchup, motivation to play, and a few value options to consider. Gaudreau has a solid 9 NHL points and 18 shots on goal over his last 10 games, which is a strong level of production for a player at only $5,100.
A 3.96 implied goal total shouldn't be a surprise for one of the league's best offenses. They'll be going up against one of the league's worst defenses in the Montreal Canadiens. A role on the second forward line and the second power-play unit should continue to put him in a good spot to rack up the points -- just as he's been doing lately.
Conor Garland ($5,000): After it looked like the Vancouver Canucks season was all but over, they've racked up six straight wins and are firmly back in the Western Conference Wild Card race. They have a winnable matchup tonight as -240 home favorites and a 3.88 implied goal total versus the Ottawa Senators. Garland has been bumped up to the first forward line and the second power-play unit, coming in with 19 NHL points, 21 shots on goal, and 8 blocked shots over his last 10 games.
